The Monday Morning Newsletter

March 2009

The importance of family child care networks. The Herr Research Center for Children and Social Policy at Erikson Institute and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation/Chicago have recently completed The Family Child Care Network Impact Study. This study “examines the impact of network affiliation on the quality of family child care in the city of Chicago.” “Key findings from the study include the following:

  • Family child care providers who are affiliated with staffed networks provide higher quality care, on average, than unaffiliated providers.

  • Providers affiliated with networks that have a specially-trained coordinator… offer higher quality care, on average, than providers in the two comparison groups – unaffiliated providers and providers in voluntary, provider-led associations.

  • Network characteristics and services have a range of effects on quality of care among affiliated providers.

Monday Morning, Inc., founded in 1981, has been a strong family child care network for 28 years and has a proud history of supporting providers to offer high quality care and education to thousands of children who have been in our program. Sue Williamson, MMI Executive Director, has submitted a proposal with study author, Juliet Bromer, and a panel of national early childhood experts to present the results of the study at the National Association for the Education of Young Children at their annual conference in November, 2009. We look forward to an exciting session.

Sincerely,

Suzanne (Sue) Schmidt, President
